Obituary of Frances Forde
Frances Hyde Forde, of Manchester and Grove Beach Point, Westbrook, died May 30, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Judge William S. Hyde and May Chaffee Hyde. She was the widow of Richard D. Forde and was predeceased by her brother, Stewart C. Hyde. Frances was born in Hartford, CT on July 22, 1920 and lived all her life in the family home in Manchester. She attended local schools and graduated from Manchester High School in 1938 and later graduated from Connecticut College, New London in 1942.
Frances served as Co-Chairman with Erma Desimone for many years arranging the MHS class of '38 reunions. Following graduation from college she was employed as a State Social Worker and Adoption Supervisor for ten years in the then called Division of Child Welfare. She went on to obtain her Teaching Certification at Eastern Connecticut State University and taught at Nathan Hale School for 18 years- retiring in 1983. Frances served as a member and past chairman of the Board of the Manchester Day Care Center. She was one of the original members of the Manchester Auxiliary of Child and Family Services. She was a member and past President of the Retired Teachers of Manchester. She maintained membership in the Hartford County Retired Teachers and also the Retired Teachers of Connecticut. Other memberships include the Manchester Historical Society and the Older Adult Association of Manchester. Frances was an active member of her college class of 1942 serving as a Class Treasurer, Reunion Chairman and Class Agent over several years. Having spent summers for over 80 years In Westbrook, CT, Frances was active in the Grove Beach Point Association as a member and past President. She was a life long member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Manchester.
Frances is survived by her son, Richard Hyde Forde and his wife Terri of Bluffton, SC, formerly from Simsbury; and her daughter Nancy Forde Lewandowski and her husband M.J. of Old Saybrook. Frances' six grandchildren are William H. Forde and his wife Marissa of Simsbury, Lindsay Forde of Groveland, MA, Sarah Forde of Arlington, VA, Jennifer Forde Black and husband John of Vienna, VA, Katherine Lewandowski and her husband Adam Guren of Boston, MA and Anne Lewandowski of San Francisco, CA. Frances also has four great grand-children: Amelia, Scarlett and James Forde; and Lillian Black.

A Funeral Service will be held for Frances on Monday June 5th at 12:00 pm at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 41 Park Street, Manchester, followed by burial at East Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St. Manchester, on Sunday June 4th from 3:00-6:00 pm.
