Obituary of Harriett D. Hiller

Harriett D. Hiller (Dennis), 98, wife of the late Willard "Bill" Hiller, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 22, 2017. Born in Scranton, PA on February 14, 1919, she was the only child of the late Alfred and Lulu (Jones) Dennis. After her marriage, she and Bill moved from Pennsylvania to the Greater Hartford area, settling in Manchester CT. They became members of and actively involved at Center Congregational Church in Manchester. Bill worked at Pratt and Whitney and Harriett became a homemaker, caring for their son John M. Hiller. She also was involved with the Manchester Library. Although she never learned to drive, this never kept Harriett from doing the things she wanted or getting where she needed to go. She enjoyed walking, with friends or on her own. The Church was an important part of Harriett's life, where she remained an engaged member, assisting with the preparation of the Orders of Service on a weekly basis until a few years before her passing. Harriett is survived by her son John M. Hiller and his wife Brenda (Spencer) Hiller, of Manchester, CT. Other survivors include: five grandchildren, Mark, Matthew, Marissa, and Mandie Hiller of Meridian, Idaho and Bethany Spencer of Hartford; four great-grandchildren Alyss, Ayden, Alex and Isaac of Meridian, Idaho; husband Bill's brother John Robert Hiller, affectionately known as "Jack" of Dalton PA. and Bill's sister, Marion H. Martin of Goshen CT, and their children. A Memorial Celebration of Life service for Harriett will be held on Tuesday June 6th at Center Congregational Church, 11 Center St, Manchester, at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at East Cemetery, Manchester, and a repast at the Church afterwards. Memorial contributions may be made on Harriett's behalf to Center Congregational Church, 11 Center St, Manchester, CT 06040. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements
