Obituary of Elizabeth M. O'Rourke
Elizabeth M. "Liz" (Fogarty) O'Rourke passed away at home surrounded by her children on April 30, 2017. Liz was born on February 16, 1926, in New York City, to Timothy and Margaret Fogarty. She met the "love of her life" John O'Rourke and they were married at St. Jerome's Church on September 10, 1955. In addition to her parents, Liz was predeceased by her sisters, Maureen and Kathleen, her beloved husband, John, and son, Jeffrey. She is survived by her sister, Mary Sheahan, of New York, her sons Gregory of South Windsor, Brian of West Hartford, Michael (Nina) of Kensington and Todd (Maria) of Glastonbury; her daughters Maureen (Milton) Ives of Bolton, and Colleen (Christopher) Munzu of Manchester, her special daughter-in-law Debra Ziemski O'Rourke of Indiana; her grandchildren Danielle and Corey Kalman, Julia (Brewster) Curry, Jacques Mercier and Aiden Ives, Shane Ziemski, and Sean and Maggie Munzu; her great grandson, Rudy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank the "angels" from A Caring Hand and VNA who tended to mom and took such good care of her. Liz was a woman of class, compassion, strong character and unwavering faith. Those who knew her best will remember her as a gracious host, a woman with impeccable taste, a keen sense of humor and devotion to her family.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 5th at 10:45 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church, 736 Middle Turnpike East, Manchester. Burial will be at East Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, on Thursday, May 4th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Liz's name to the Association of Marian Helpers.
