Obituary of Patricia R. O'Brien

Patricia "Pat" Ann Ryder O'Brien, 71, of Manchester, CT, passed away on April 29, 2017 after her third struggle with cancer at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by her family, Kevin O'Brien (husband), Douglas O'Brien (son), and Kim O'Brien Maysonet (daughter). Pat was born in Brattleboro, VT, on May 2, 1945. Pat was a true Vermonter and enjoyed skiing since she was a child. She enjoyed dancing and backpacking as well, having walked the entire Vermont Long Trail (less seven miles). She was a great planner, very practical and organized. Patricia met her husband, Kevin, in Brattleboro, VT. They were strangers at a table where they were deciding with whom to carpool. She pointed across the table at him and said "he's coming with me." That ride lasted forty-four years. They were married on August 17, 1974. Pat spent her professional career as a real estate agent at Sentry Real Estate. She left in 2005 to take care of her grandchildren, one of her greatest joys. Pat was also a member of the Manchester Art Association; she looked forward to spending time with her Tuesday morning painting partners. Neill Monteserin was her closest friend; they went on many trips together, usually to the beach at Hammonasset State Park. Pat was known for her smile, practicality and optimism. She was a bold, courageous woman who was unafraid. Pat was strong to the very end. Patricia is preceded in death by her brother, Donald Ryder, and her grandson, Chad O'Brien. She is survived by her husband, Kevin O'Brien; her son, Douglas O'Brien, her daughter-in-law, Lisa O'Brien, her grandson Kurt O'Brien, and her great-grandson, Kaleb Gouchoe; her daughter, Kim Maysonet, her son-in-law, Luis Maysonet, and her grandchildren, Kevin Maysonet and Nathaniel Maysonet; her nephew, Richard Ryder; and her niece, Cynthia Lehman. A wake will be held at Manchester Country Club, 305 South Main Street, Manchester from 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, May 4th. Funeral service will be held on Friday May 5th at 8:45 a.m. from the John F.
