Obituary of David A. Scopino

David A. Scopino, 69, of Manchester passed away March 8 with the love of his life, Mary R. Juleson-Scopino at his side. Dave spent more than 36 years working in the East Hartford Public School System as both a teacher and administrator. He was recognized with the Teacher of the Year award. In addition to teaching reading and social studies, he was beloved as the Director of Adult Education and Summer School. Devoted to his community, he was part of the Rotary and Exchange Clubs, as well as Literacy Volunteers. He also volunteered with youth baseball and football. He will be remembered as a constant joker, an avid UConn Women's Basketball and NY Yankees fan. He enjoyed many lively conversations about the current state of politics, but his favorite thing to do was being Poppy to Zoey. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mary; his children: State Representative Kelly Luxenberg (Geoff), Gregory (Ausra) and Matthew; his cherished grandchildren Zoey, Auguste and Emilis; his siblings: Peggy, Steve (Cheryl) and Cathy (Harry); as well as several other loved family members. He also leaves behind his four-legged buddies, Holly and Mickey. Dave was predeceased by his father, Joseph Scopino. His last days were spent surrounded by his loving family and friends where he bestowed upon each of them lessons on life, love, family, and rock 'n' roll - he could not have been more at peace with the world. The family would like to thank Manchester's first responders for their numerous call responses over the past several years, as well as the nurses at Hartford Hospital. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 12 from 2-5pm at Tierney's Funeral Home (219 West Center Street, Manchester) and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 13 at 10am at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church (285 Church Street, Hartford.) In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to cure childhood diabetes in his memory to the JDRF, 20 Batterson Park Road, 3rd Floor, Farmington, CT 06032.
