Obituary of William Puglise

William John Puglise, 88 of Manchester, predeceased by his beloved wife Jane (Mayer) Puglise passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford he was the son of the late Leonard J. and Theresa (Priore) Puglise. He graduated from Weaver High School in 1947 and served in the US Navy from 1948 - 1952 as a sonarman seaman. Bill was a member of the Manchester VFW. He also had played semi-professional football in the greater Hartford area. He worked as a surveyor for the City of Hartford in the Engineering Dept. for forty-three years until his retirement. Bill was a kind man who was devoted to his wife and family. Bill and Jane had many happy years together and deeply loved each other. He spent two or three days a week taking his mother for breakfast and long rides. Every Sunday was spent with family, having dinner, playing cards or watching sport events, especially the NY Giants and UCONN women basketball. He was a craftsman, who along with his brother Lenny and brother-in-law Frank built all the family homes. In retirement he built furniture and restored antiques for Jane who was an antique dealer. He also enjoyed trips to the casino. He loved his nephew and nieces, Frank, Susan and Mary Jane, as if they were his own children. He also enjoyed his dog Poppy and cats Lily and ChiChi. He is survived by his nephew Frank Kirchhof and his wife Patricia, nieces Susan and Mary Jane Kirchhof all of Broad Brook, his wife's niece Karen Snyder and her husband Robert of Manchester and his close family friend Cindy King. Besides his wife Jane and his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister Virginia (Puglise) Kirchhof and his brother Leonard J. Puglise, Jr. Bill's family would like to thank the staff of Fresh River Health Center, St Francis Hospital Oncology Unit and the Masonic Partner Hospice for their excellent care and support. Memorial donations may be made to the Fresh River Health Center Recreation Dept. 96 Prospect Hill Rd. East Windsor, CT 06088. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 9th at 9:15 from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at St. James Church, Manchester with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 - 7:00.
