Obituary of M. Zemke
Jane Zemke (Mary Jane McNamara Zemke) passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her loving family at her side on February 7th joining Tom, her beloved husband of 67 years in eternal life. She was 88 years old.
Jane was born in Hartford on March 22, 1928 to Flora and Bertrand McNamara and grew up with her boisterous siblings Bert, Bob, Ray Joan and Dick. She developed a lifelong love of children and took great satisfaction working at Children's Village caring for orphans before marrying her handsome husband, settling in Manchester and becoming a stay at home mom raising and caring for her three children. Jane ran a daycare for many years at her home after her children grew-up and then worked for the State of CT. Upon retiring Jane went on many exciting trips with Tom traveling all over the U.S., Caribbean Islands, England and Ireland.
Jane was a kind, gentle person with a quick smile, and an authentic interest in people and the world around her. She touched many lives throughout her life. Jane enjoyed volunteering her time as a Girl Scout Leader, Toys for Tots, and in public schools. As an avid reader, she also took great pleasure buying and donating hundreds of books to Books for Dreams a children's literacy program.
Jane will be immensely missed by many especially her children Mike Zemke, Barbara Lofstrom and Janet Burrell; her grandchildren Christy Driscoll and her husband Tyler, Matt Burrell and his girlfriend Katie, Kevin Burrell and his wife Jenny and Liz Lofstrom; and her great-grandchildren Julie, Amelie, Lucy, Ava, Sammy and a great-grandbaby due next month; her siblings and their spouses Joan Jordan, Dick and Lynn McNamara and Carolyn Bates; her nephew Tim McNamara and his wife Karen and her many other nieces and nephews.
