Obituary of Peter Maneggia

Peter J. Maneggia, Sr., 81, of Andover passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017. He was born in Bolton on March 7, 1935 the son of Peter F. and Pauline (Doyle) Maneggia and was the husband of the late Irene (Goss) Maneggia who died in 1994. Peter spent his youth on the small farm owned by his family in Bolton. He loved to tell the stories of visits of his relatives from New York City and surrounding towns. Peter found success on the baseball diamond as a pitcher for Manchester High School, before graduating in 1953, he then spent three years in the US Army stationed in Germany. He joined his father's construction business after the Army. During this time he met the love of his life and future wife Irene Mae Goss. They married in 1958, moved to Andover and raised three children. Through his years in Andover, Peter became active in the community serving on many boards. He was very proud of the years as 2nd Selectman and as the Road Foreman for the Town. During this time Peter also became involved with a town fast pitch softball team that would evolve into a regional powerhouse, Reed Construction. When his career finished he was inducted into the CT ASA Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. Peter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Donalyn Maneggia and their two children, Alex and Mckenzie, his daughter Catherine Maneggia and her two children, Erica and Joushua Beckwith, his daughter ,Patti-Ann Maneggia and her son Tyler Maneggia. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lou Warren, Kathleen Maneggia and Virginia Maneggia. Peter's family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Buckingham of Glastonbury, for the care they gave to their father. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 at the First Congregational Church of Andover 359 Rte 6, Andover on Friday, February 10th. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Friday morning from 9:00 - 12:00. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the First Congregational Church Food Pantry 359 Rte. 6 Andover, CT 06232.
