Obituary of Cecilia Michalak

CECILIA (Ceal) Marie Oliver MICHALAK, 93, resident of Manchester CT for 50 years, passed in her sleep on January 2, 2017 in Hanover, Maryland. Born in Bridgeport, CT, on August 14, 1923. Cecilia married Henry "Bud" Michalak in East Hartford Ct. on May 8, 1942 and then in 1950, settled down in Manchester Ct. where they raised their family of five children. The family business, started by "Bud and Ceal"- Hartford Road Enterprises- provided used car and International Harvester Truck sales and services for over 40 years. Known as "Mrs. M" to numerous youth in the community due to both her employment at the Public Library and active support of St. James Catholic Church, St. James School, and East Catholic High School (where all five of her children received their primary and secondary educations). She was also a member of the St. James Mother Circle. Mrs. "M" taught the neighborhood children how to swim at Globe Hallow, ice skate, and ride bicycles. She transported children, parents and nuns all over the state for various events and activities and made her home available for students with limited resources who attended Manchester Community College. Cecilia leaves a legacy of superb care-giving to current generations by her example of dedication and unselfish generosity to those in need. Cecilia is survived by her daughter, Cecilia Hayes and her husband RT Klamm of Pasadena, MD, her son Edmund Michalak and his wife Gia of Alpharetta, GA, five grandchildren: Jody Michelle Hayes Dearman, Cottonwood AZ; Michael Oliver Hayes West Los Angeles, CA; Jill Michalak Lovill of Scottsdale, AZ; Matthew John Michalak, Renton, WA; and Christopher Michalak, Cumming, GA; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one niece and nephew, Jane Connor and Jim Oliver. Cecilia is preceded in death by her husband Henry, daughters Kathleen and Veronica, son John and her parents and siblings. Visitation and Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9th 2017. Visitation will be at Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W Center Street Manchester Ct. between 8:45 and 9:45 AM. Funeral will take place at St. James Catholic Church, 896 Main St, Manchester, CT. at 10 AM. Internment will immediately follow at St. James Cemetery, 360 Broad St., Manchester Ct, 06040. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association online at act.alz.org or Alzheimer's Association at PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090. Please indicate on a separate sheet who the donation is for: "In memory CECILIA MICHALAK" and notification to next of kin, Edmund Michalak.
