Obituary of Stanley J. Bellefleur

Stanley Bellefleur, of Manchester, Connecticut, died on Thursday, December 15, 2016. He was born on December 11, 1918 to Alex and Agnes Bellefleur in Limestone, Maine and was the youngest of 18 children. Stan was raised on a potato farm in Northern Maine. He served in the US Army during World War II Battery A 36th Field Artillery Battalion (later divided into the 733rd Field Artillery). From 1942-1945 he fought on the front lines of many major battles operating heavy artillery in the African, Sicilian, Italian (including Anzio) and European Theaters. After the war Stan settled in Manchester, Connecticut and worked as a carpenter. He built several houses and enjoyed puttering in his workshop as well as helping others with their repair and remodeling projects. He especially loved going to the camp he built in Stetson, Maine. Stan was a huge Red Sox, auto racing, and UCONN Women's Basketball fan. He was appreciated and loved by so many for his generosity, integrity and quick wit. He was predeceased by his wife Cedulie in 1986. He is survived by daughters Lynn Griffin of Port Orange, FL, Sheila Bellefleur of Key West, Florida, son Wayne Bellefleur (Kim) of Willington, Connecticut, grandchildren Jay (Colleen), Jesse, Chelsea, Alanna, Ashley (Andrew) and great-granddaughter Brenna as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews across the country. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (December 20th) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Church 80 Main St. Manchester, CT followed by burial with military honors in St. James Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St., Manchester on Monday (December 19th) from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the VA Medical Clinic in Newington, CT.
