Obituary of Corrine M. Capalbo

Corrine M. (Reardon) Capalbo of Cranston, Rhode Island, passed away suddenly, surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey on November 21, 2016. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, relative, friend, neighbor and educator. Corrine was the beloved daughter of the late M. Ernestine Massaro and John F. Reardon. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, William N. Capalbo, Sr. of Cranston; three sons, William N. Capalbo, Jr. and his wife, Kristin of Englishtown, New Jersey; John M. Capalbo and his fiancée, Cinnamon St. John of New York City; and Mark J. Capalbo and his wife, Jillian of Wayne, New Jersey. Corrine was a loving grandmother, affectionately known as Mimi, to Eva Marie, Makai Anthony, and Reese Olivia. She traveled on a weekly basis to New Jersey to offer them her love and care. Her cherished sisters, Kathleen Tierney of Manchester, Connecticut and Maureen McGuire of Warwick shared a lifetime of love, friendship and laughter. Their husbands, Thomas Tierney and Stephen McGuire, as well as Dr. Carmine J. Capalbo and Peter A. Capalbo were the brothers she never had. A multitude of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews were the beneficiaries of Corrine's nonjudgmental advice and guidance. In turn, they were a source of tremendous joy and pride through the years. She always counted a wealth of friendships among her many blessings. Everyone will miss her beyond measure. Corrine graduated with honors from Bay View Academy and was a 1968 graduate of Brown University. She earned a Master's Degree in Special Education from Rhode Island College and went on to teach special education classes, first, and second grade in Woonsocket for 28 years. Her superior teaching skills and dedication to the needs of children inspired countless students and teachers. In 1995, Corrine was presented with the Teacher of the Year Award from The Arc of Northern Rhode Island for "creatively and courageously expanding the world of children with differing abilities." In her final year of teaching, Globe Park Elementary School dedicated its yearbook to her. During the last five years of her retirement, Corrine's influence spread beyond Rhode Island, as she combined her deep faith in God and teaching acumen to teach religious education classes, which always included her granddaughter, Eva, in New Jersey. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects to this great lady at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Monday, November 28 from 4 to 8 pm.
