Obituary of Josephine McCooe
Josephine (Galligan) "Coozie" McCooe, 90, of Manchester, the widow of the late James McCooe died on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. She passed away at the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law. She was born in Hartford, CT on July 10, 1926, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Cassidy) Galligan. She has been a resident of Manchester since 1957. Prior to retirement, she was employed by SNET Co. for 37 years. She is survived by her loving children, son Kevin J. McCooe (Millie) of No. Coventry and daughter, Nanny (McCooe) Byrka (John) of South Windsor. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Brendan, Patrick, and Liam McCooe, Ryan Kydd (Tanja), Meghan (Kydd) LaRocca (Charles) and Kerry (Byrka) Macchi (Paul) and Caitryn Byrka. She also leaves five great-grandchildren James, Pierce, Brennen, Taryn and Gianna.Her newest little great grandson is due on November 25th. Jo is survived by two loving sisters Mary Ann Tedesco and Beatrice Reilly and her special friend Colleen Bixler.She was pre-deceased by her lifelong friend, Katherine Funke. She is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews. Jo was a member of the Ladies Guild of Church of the Assumption, The Irish American Home, and The Telephone Pioneers.
The family would like to express their most profound thanks to the loving and supportive staff of VITAS. They helped make Coozie's final days comfortable and helped her pass with dignity.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21st, at 9:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption 29 Adams St. South, Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
