Obituary of Michele Giglio
Michele "Mike" Giglio, 85, of Bolton passed away on October 30, 2016 with his beloved family by his side at St, Francis Hospital. Mike leaves behind his wife of sixty-two years, Arlene (Cushman) Giglio. Born in Manchester, CT he was the youngest son of the late Michele and Irma Rose (Siani) Giglio and was a lifelong resident of Bolton, CT. He graduated from Manchester High, Class of 1948. He served in the US Army overseas in Seoul, Korea. Mike was a communicant of St. Maurice Church, Bolton for many years. In 1968 he started his own business, Mike's A.I. Service and never really retired. Besides his wife, Mike is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Noreen and David Darigo of Holly Springs, NC, a son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Lynn Giglio of Manchester, CT and four grandchildren Christopher, Jaclyn, Kirk and Spencer. He also leaves two siblings Mary Denny and Alphonse Giglio as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his brothers Phillip, Eugene, Leonard, Tony, Albert, Louis, Harry and a sister Theresa. Mike has always had baseball throughout his life, starting in high school with Manchester ball teams. After high school, he continued to play, but when his children got old enough to join a team, he moved onto coaching Little League in Bolton for several years. He was also an active member of the Bolton Athletic Association and was president for two years. He joined and managed a Bolton adult men's softball team and when he became old enough, he played in the senior softball league in Vernon. He finally hung his glove up at the end of the 2015 season. Mike especially enjoyed Tuesday breakfast meetings with his fellow players.
Mike was very proud of his rich knowledge of the history of Bolton throughout his lifetime. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UCONN, and was especially honored to have a personal letter sent to him from Joe DiMaggio. He was named to the Wall of Fame from Bolton Public Schools in 2008. He liked to share his interview that is still in rotation called Bolton Living History on CVC-P TV. Mike often enjoyed Bingo and Mexican Train Dominoes with his friends at the Bolton Senior Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Maurice Church Hebron Road, Bolton followed by burial in Bolton Center Cemetery.
