Obituary of Carmella T. Rizzo
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carmella (Longo) Rizzo, beloved wife of the late Leonard Rizzo at Manchester Manor where she currently resided. Born in East Hartford CT on August 23, 1920, she was the last surviving sibling of nine brothers and sisters. She grew up on Melrose St. in East Hartford and worked on the family farm. To her grandchildren's amazement, she drove a horse and wagon before she drove a car. Her 41 year marriage to Leonard Rizzo began in October 1939. The most important things in her life were her family, the joy of Italian cooking, and her hot peppers. She leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted son David L. Rizzo and his wife Kathy of Ellington and their three children and great grandchildren, Michael and Amy Rizzo of Milford (Connor and Owen), Joseph and Nora Rizzo of Shelton (Luca and Ella) and Kate Rizzo of London, England; her son Robert J. Rizzo and wife Lois of Florida and his son Victor and Erin Rizzo (Jamie, Will and Sean) of California. She also leaves a special niece, Marie Galizia and her family. We wish to thank the caring staff at Manchester Manor who cared for her with much love and affection. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 15, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Rd, South Windsor, CT , with a burial in St. Mary's cemetery in East Hartford to follow. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, CT, on Friday, October 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Manor Recreation Fund 385 West Center St. Manchester, CT 06040.
