Obituary of Kenneth Phillips

Kenneth E. Phillips, 81, of Manchester, husband of the late Sally H. Phillips, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Ken was born on August 22, 1927, in Manchester, son of the late Benjamin and Edith (Stevenson) Phillips. He was a member of St. James Church in Manchester. He attended school in Manchester and then joined the Navy. When he returned from the Navy he began working for the Railroad and later for the U.S. Postal Service in Manchester until he retired. As a lifelong resident of Manchester he always enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends about the town. Ken was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Neiswanger, and her husband, Thomas, of South Windsor; a daughter, Kimberly Phillips and a son, Sean Phillips, both of Manchester; a brother, Benjamin Phillips of Windsor, his grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters; Vivian Lavine and Vera Stewart. Ken's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Manchester Manor and the VNA Hospice for their care and kindness. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at 9:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., in Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 1, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
