Obituary of Janet Barrett

Janet D. Barrett, 78, of Manchester passed away on Friday (September 26, 2008) after a short illness. Born on March 18, 1930 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Helen (Cotter) Delmore. She was a graduate of East Hartford High School and Eastern Connecticut State College, and obtained her Master's Degree at Trinity College. She was employed by Glastonbury High School as a history teacher for 20 years. Following her retirement, she continued her passion for teaching as a volunteer for many years at Trust House Family Learning Center in Hartford. She leaves her children; Patricia Brannick and husband David of Manchester, Nancy Barrett of Manchester, Elizabeth Vichi and husband John of Manchester, and Donald Barrett of Jacksonville, Florida. She also leaves two grandchildren; Libby Brannick of Manchester and Sean Brannick and wife Maritza of New Britain, three great grandchildren; Hunter, Anthony and Brianna, niece and nephew Nell Sweeney of Bloomfield and Edward Sweeney of Windsor, cousins John Breen and Brian Breen of New Mexico, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her son Anthony Barrett and her sister Barbara Sweeney. Calling hours will be held on Monday September 29th from 5 to 8 pm at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Bartholomew's Church, 45 Ludlow Road, Manchester. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Tariffville. The family would like to thank Dr. Ranjit Kuru and his staff, and the Visiting Nurses Association of Vernon for their compassionate and attentive care.
