Obituary of Raymond Gagnon

Raymond H. Gagnon, 96, of Manchester, CT passed away September 16, 2008. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Ray was born in Woonsocket Rhode Island to the late Amanda (Rivard) and Louis Gagnon on October 17, 1911. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Babits Gagnon and four children; Dennis Gagnon and wife Karen of Putnam CT, Linda Gagnon and fiancé Kenneth Lance of East Hampton CT, Stephen Gagnon of Farmington CT, and Joyce Brookins and husband Donald of Broomfield Colorado; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Ray was enlisted in the US Navy, from April 10, 1939 until January 15, 1946. During WWII, he served in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded eight medals for his distinguished service. His lifetime profession and passion was that of an x-ray technician. He retired from New Britain General Hospital in 1976. He often shared stories about his work and years of service in the Navy. He took great pride in providing and maintaining a lovely home for his family. His hobbies included photography, woodworking, carpentry, camping and playing checkers. Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, from 2-5 pm at John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:15 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am at the Church of the Assumption Adams Street South, Manchester followed by burial with military honors in East Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of his son, Stephen, who is currently battling MS.
