Lois Frances Ames (Newton), 93, of Glastonbury Health Care Center, Glastonbury, CT Beloved wife of the late Robert D. Ames died peacefully on Friday (August 29, 2008). A lifelong resident of Manchester, CT born in Hartford, CT May 20, 1915. Lois was the daughter of the late Wilbur I. Newton and Elsie May Newton (Nichols). Lois graduated from Hall High School, West Hartford. She began her career as an Executive Secretary for the J. A. Ingersoll Insurance Agency, Hartford, CT. In her leisure time Lois loved reading and enjoyed baking for family & friends. She was also an avid fan of the UCONN Huskies. Lois will be dearly missed by her family & friends. A loving mother, grandmother & great-grandmother, Lois is survived by her 2 daughters, Carol (Paul) Kloser of Palm City, FL, Roberta (Thomas) Hodge of Coconut Creek, FL. 11 Grandchildren, Sandra Bennett, Sharon (Robert) Bloom, Sheila Bennett, Carol (Dale) Smith, Judith (David) Sawtelle, Ronda (Geoff) Saunders, Robin (Richard) Thompson, Norman (Mi-Kyoung) Shields Jr., Kirk (Lori) Friberg, Steve (Pong) Friberg, Nils Fribreg, 9 Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Irving E. Newton, Wilbur J. Newton, and a grandson, Robert W. Bennett Jr. Funeral service will be held on Saturday (September 6th) at 11 am at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 pm and Saturday from 10-11 am.
