Obituary of Theodore Stepanski

Theodore ("Ted") J. Stepanski, 90, of Essex and formerly of Manchester, CT, beloved husband of fifty-one years of Patricia (Glasson) Stepanski, passed peacefully away on Tues. (June 10, 2008) at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in New Britain, CT, son of Bertha and Joseph Stepanski, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley (McDonald) in 1956. Ted worked for more than forty years at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, at both the North Haven and East Hartford Plants. A tool design supervisor, Ted was a forward thinker in his championing of new technologies, including the use of CAD/CAM systems. Ted took pride in mentoring many employees by taking a personal interest in their careers and identifying the best use of their talents and abilities. Always an active man, Ted had many hobbies and interests. He was a founding and lifelong member of the Coon and Fox Club in Coventry, CT and served as president of the Amston Lake Tax District. An avid golfer who routinely shot in the low eighties well into his eighties, he was a long-time member of the Manchester Country Club. An alumnus of the University of Connecticut, Ted followed the games of the "Lady Huskies" with particular enthusiasm. A man of sound principles, good reason and deep convictions, Ted was a family man at heart, encouraging his wife in her many professional endeavors, including the running of the Peddler Gift Shop in Essex and raising four girls to pursue their educational dreams. He was a good friend to many and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his four daughters, Susan Stepanski and her husband, Michael McComber of Manchester, Lisa Stepanski and her husband, Sean Borstel of Medway, MA, Laura Nefissi and her husband Sami, of Manassas, VA, and Faith (Blette) Brown and her husband, Jeffrey of New Haven. In addition, he leaves nine grandchildren, Ashley, Theodore, Tristan, Nathan, Charles, Emma, Lydia, Lilia and Farris and his brother, Henry Stevens of Fair Haven, NJ and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 15th from 2-5 pm. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, CT. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16th at 9:15 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester, CT. Relatives and friends are cordially invited. Internment will follow at St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
