Catherine "Kay" H. Bowles, 89, of East Hartford, passed away Monday, April 14, 2008 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born April 4, 1919, in Naugatuck, CT, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Caroline Hughes. She was a graduate of St. Joseph College, West Hartford, CT and retired from United Technologies after 35 years. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret B. Cramer of East Hartford; a son Frederick W. Bowles and his wife Suduval of Miami, FL; four grandchildren, Tamra Myers of Dayton, TX, Douglas Cramer of Summerville, SC, and Arwood and Michael Bowles of Miami, FL; and seven great-grandchildren, Connor and Rhianna Myers, Tyler and Zachary Cramer, and Jonathan, Steven and Kevin Bowles. She also leaves her two "adopted daughters," Sharon Benoit and Donna Hacksunda. She was a loving mother and friend. She spent many hours knitting and crocheting beautiful sweaters, alter scarves, religious pictures and prayers. She always looked for a new and unusual design to challenge her knitting skills. Funeral service will be held on Friday (April 18, 2008) at 10:15 from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at the Church of the Assumption Adam St. South, Manchester followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Windsor Locks. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4-7 pm.
