Obituary of Patrick Reeves

Captain Patrick Reeves, 50 of Coventry died suddenly Sunday, July 29th while attending a police conference in Canada. Born in Hartford, CT, Patrick was the son of Raymond and Nancy Reeves. Pat leaves behind his wife and best friend of 27 years, Maureen Kelly Reeves. He was the proud and loving father to his two children, a daughter, Kathryn Reeves, age 22 and a son, Tyler Reeves, age 18. Everyone who knew Pat knew that he loved his wife and children more than words can describe. In addition to his wife and children, Pat is survived by his brother Michael Reeves and his wife Donna and their two grown children, Christopher and Colleen of East Hartford; his mother-in-law Teresa Kelly of Manchester; and his brother-in-law John Kelly and his five children, of Mount Airy, MD. He is also survived by too many friends to mention, but most notably Russ Wood and his family of Coventry, who considered Pat their second father, his Brewster St. family, and his longtime childhood friend Neal Forte of Newington. Pat received his Associates Degree in Law Enforcement from Manchester Community College and joined the Wethersfield Police Department in 1977, where he worked for two years. In 1979, he joined the Manchester Police Department, and rose through the ranks from Patrol Officer to Sergeant to Lieutenant and finally to Captain. While working full-time and raising his family, Pat received his bachelor's degree from Charter Oak College and his Masters Degree from Western New England College. In addition to his regular police activities, Pat was a founding member of the Manchester Police Athletic League and he sat on the advisory board of the Blue Angels. Beyond his accomplished career with the Manchester Police Department, Pat was known and loved for so much more. He was set apart from others not only by his police accomplishments, but by the way he lived and loved life. To all who knew him, Pat was a passionate golfer, who recently purchased his dream condominium on a golf course in Myrtle Beach. He was an avid supporter of his children's sporting activities—coaching his daughter's basketball team, and never missing a dance recital or one of his son's soccer games. One of Pat's most important legacies is the number of people who considered him their friend. Pat would do anything for anybody at any time; he was always willing to lend an ear, a hand or some very good advice. To his closest friends he was affectionately known as "Mr. Wonderful" and was a second father to all the "Brewster Street Kids." He was always the first responder to any emergency, including stray wildlife infestations in friends' homes. Pat had an extended neighborhood that truly loved and cared for him. One of his favorite pastimes was entertaining, as he was a very talented cook. On a regular basis Pat and his family hosted large neighborhood gatherings where his cooking took center stage. For over ten years he coordinated and cooked at the monthly church suppers at Second Congregational Church in Coventry, where he was a very active member One of Pat's best qualities was he always let people know where they stood with him—quick to laugh and quick to cry, he shared his emotions openly with others. Pat's friends and family truly believe that no finer man walked this earth.
