Tiverton, RI - Florence Marie (Sherman) Girard, 88, of Tiverton, RI formerly of Manchester, CT died Friday, August 25, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Vincent G. Girard and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 28th. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Connelly) Sherman. Mrs. Girard had worked as a bookkeeper for Wetstone Tobacco in Manchester, for many years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Bridget Church in Manchester. Mrs. Girard was an avid golfer and reader, a crossword enthusiast, an accomplished bridge player, and a talented knitter. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons Vincent G. Girard Jr. of South Glastonbury, and Armand Girard of Evanston, IL, a daughter Lynn Galvin of Portsmouth, RI, a sister Mildred Dunne of Jensen Beach, FL, ten grandchildren Catherine Abraham, Elizabeth Ferkany, Gregory Girard, Mark Girard, Scott Girard, Timothy Girard, Girard Galvin, Andrew Galvin, Conor Galvin, and Kevin Galvin, and a great grandson Jack Girard. She was also the sister of the late William Sherman. Funeral service will be held on Friday (September 4, 2006) at 10:30 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Bridget Church, Main St. Manchester. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
