Obituary of Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Allen

Kathleen Marie Allen, “Kathy”, was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 23, 1943. She passed away on October 6, 2018. She moved to Manchester, CT as a young child in 1946. She attended the Verplanck School, and the special education program at Burr Junior High School in Hartford, CT.

Kathy worked for many years as a hostess and baker at McDonald’s before severe rheumatoid arthritis rendered her unable to continue. She has lived in Vernon, CT in a group home for the past two decades. She was the daughter of Gordon and Madeline Allen, two of the founders of MARC, Inc., an organization that has helped Kathy and many others with developmental disabilities.

Kathy was a devoted sports fan of her beloved Red Sox. She also rooted enthusiastically for the Celtics, the Patriots and the UCONN Huskies Women’s Basketball team. She leaves her sister, Judy Allen Wilson and brother-in-law Randy Wilson of Pasadena, CA and three nephews, James, Brian and Daniel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 12 at 10:00 AM at Church of the Assumption 29 South Adams St Manchester with burial to follow at St. James Cemetery. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations to MARC, Inc. in Kathy’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
