Russell L. Tomlinson, 96, the husband of the late Anna (Smachetti) Tomlinson died on Wednesday (March 30, 2011) at the Bidwell Care Center. He was born in Glastonbury the son of Elmer and Jane (Young) Tomlinson and had lived in Manchester for many years. His work background was in the grocery business and at one time owned Russ's Market. Russell was an avid Red Sox and UCONN women's basketball fan. He had a great love of ice fishing especially when he was able to go with his son Allen and his brother Everett. Russell is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Janet and Michael O'Brien of Manchester, his son and daughter-in-law Allen and Betty Tomlinson of Springfield, MA; his grandchildren, whom he loved greatly, Jennifer Olton of FL, Patrick O'Brien of SC and Kevin O'Brien of NJ and his great grandchildren, who he truly adored, Brittany and John Olton and Brendan, Colin, Nicholas, Madeleine, Lilly and Abigail O'Brien. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and his wife Henry and Bobby Smachetti and several nieces and nephews. Russell was also predeceased by his brothers Everett, Gerald and Harry and his sister Dorothy Senkbeil. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:30 at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester followed by burial in St. James Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5.
