Obituary of Jean Hahn

Jean Allison (Fothergill) Hahn, 81, of East Hartford and Clinton, CT beloved wife of Karl R. Hahn, went to be with the Lord on February 28, 2011 in Manchester Memorial Hospital, Manchester, CT. She had recently suffered kidney failure and died from that and other complications after a very special time with all of her loving family. She was born October 2, 1929 in Hartford, daughter of the late Burdette Wilmot Fothergill and Hazel Mae (Forbes) Fothergill. She grew up in East Hartford graduating from East Hartford High School and Lesley College to become an elementary school teacher. She taught for 32 years mostly at Sly School in East Hartford, retiring in the mid 1980s. Jean was a member of the Martha Pitkin / Wolcott Chapter of the DAR, the East Hartford Garden Club, and the CT Teachers Retirement Association. Jean is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Karl; two sons, L. Martin Hahn and his wife Susan, and Dwight C. Hahn and his wife Karla. Jean had 9 Grandchildren: Sarah, Eric, Andrew, Danielle, Luke, Rosemary, Timothy, Tiffany, Emily, and 2 Great Grandchildren: Thomas and Abigail. Our heartfelt thanks go to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Critical Care Unit at Manchester Memorial Hospital for their outstanding level of care and sensitivity while caring for Jean. The family will receive visitors at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home at 219 West Center St. in Manchester between 2 and 4 PM and again from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday March 3, 2010. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon at the South Congregational Church, 277 Main St. in Hartford on Friday followed by burial at Center Cemetery in East Hartford.
