William J. Manning, husband of Charlotte Boland Manning died February 9, 2011 at his home in Manchester surrounded by his family. He was born February 7, 1915 in Cambridge, MA to William J. and Marion Hayes Manning. He graduated from English High and Bentley College. He was employed at Boston Navy Yard until entering the Army in 1942, served 3 ½ years during World War II in Africa and Italy. He worked at Chandler Evans, West Hartford for many years and finished his career as an accountant at American Thread, Willimantic. Bill was married to Dorothy Murray Manning with whom he had five children. Besides his wife, he is survived by Edward J. of California, William J. and wife Mary and children Juli and Ryan of Darien, Virginia Tuber and husband Paul of Ellington, Joyce of Manchester and children Logand and Jaclyn, Kathleen Orr and husband Hugh and children Samantha, Emily and Allan. He is also survived by Charlotte's children, whom he loved as his own, Ellen Boland, Edward and Bonnie Boland, children Mariah, Ted and McKenzie, and their mother Mary Boland, Mary and Mark Beebe and children Michele, Jennifer, Brian and Kevin and wife Tanya, Charlotte and Michael Greene and children Patrick and Marikate, Daniel and Karen Boland and children Lindsay and husband George, Kiley and Michael, Kenneth and Kristy Boland and children A.J., Justin, Kenneth Jr. and several great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Paul, sister Mary Carney and husband James, granddaughter Shannon Beebe and great-granddaughter Colleen Beebe. He was a founding member of St. Bartholomew Church and for over fifty years a very active parishioner having been in the Legion of Mary, a lector, minister of the Eucharist and visitor to the convalescent homes. He was an overnight volunteer at the Samaritan Shelter and also a director of the Eight Utilities District. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Bartholomew Church 736 Middle Turnpike Manchester, CT 06040 followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 pm.
