Obituary of Vincent Donadio

Vincent Donadio, 88, beloved husband of Rose (Salvati) Donadio of Manchester, passed away at Manchester Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Born in Saracena, Italy on September 20, 1922, he was the son of the late Raffaele and Filomena (Prioli) Donadio. Vincent came to the United States on February 8, 1955 on the USS Independence and a year later called for his wife and first two children to join him. He proudly became a US citizen in 1967 and lived in Manchester most of his life. He retired in 1987 from the Manchester Board of Education where he worked as a custodian in the local school system, a job he truly enjoyed. Earlier in his career he worked at two Manchester companies of historical significance, Case Brothers Paper Mill and Cheney Brothers Silk Mill. He was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Manchester. Along with spending time with his family, his favorite pastimes included walking, raking leaves, and watching UCONN men's and women's basketball games. Besides his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Nancy Donadio of Coventry, his daughter and son-in-law, Filomena and James Adamik of Manchester, CT, his daughter, Anna Smith of Albany, NY, his daughter and son-in-law, Lenora and Richard Joerres of Manchester, CT, his daughters, Nancy Quinn and Ellen Donadio, both of Vernon, CT. He also leaves behind the lights of his life, his ten grandchildren, Nicolle and Jason Donadio, Benjamin Adamik, Adam, Michael, and Andrew Smith, Douglas and Geoffrey Joerres, and Matthew and Christopher Quinn, all of whom have countless fond memories of time spent with their grandfather doing ordinary things in a warm and loving environment. Also left to mourn his passing are his nieces, Mary Eastwood of Manchester, CT, Domenica Healey of West Hartford, CT, and Gloria Donlin of South Windsor, CT, his nephews Mario, Antonio , and Raffaele and his niece, Matilda in Saracena, Italy, and many more loving relatives here and in Italy. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and Antonio Donadio, his sisters Anna Mary and Elinore Donadio and Tomasina Celeo, and his niece, Mary Steben. Funeral service will be held on Monday (February 7th) at 9:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester, followed by burial in East Cemetery.
