Obituary of John Bodyk

John Bodyk Sr., 94, of Manchester, formerly of Derby the husband of 49 years to the late Margaret (Sember) Bodyk died Saturday (January 29, 2011) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Derby, CT he had lived most of his life there, until spending 8 years each in, Hamden, CT, Overland Park, KS and Manchester, CT. John was a Forman, having worked for 5 years at Seymour Manufacturing, 30 years at BF Goodrich, and 5 years at Pratt & Whitney North Haven until his retirement. He also always worked part time, 25 years at Stop & Shop, 5 years at Klaridis and 5 years at A & P. He was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption. An avid book reader in his later years, reading up to a book every 2 days. He also enjoyed watching and going to see his favorite sports teams, UCONN Women's Basketball, the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. John was an avid traveler, having gone on 12 cruises including, Alaska, Russia, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the Holy Land. He is survived by his children John Bodyk Jr., and his wife Rose of Manchester, and Thomas Bodyk and his wife Jan of Hamden, and his daughter-in-law Conny Bodyk of Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by his grandchildren John Bodyk III and his wife Kathleen of Shrewsbury, MA, Andrew Bodyk and his wife Lt. Col. Nancy of Broadlands, VA, Matthew Bodyk and his wife Sheila of Surprise, AZ, Lisa Williams and her husband Kelly of Augusta, KS, Peter Bodyk Jr. and his wife Joy of Topeka, KS, and Allen Bodyk of Augusta, KS, his great-grandchildren, Megan, Bryan, Erin, Stephen, Journey and Jordan, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was also predeceased by his son Peter Bodyk formerly of Overland Park, KS. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday (February 5th) at 9:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Church of the Assumption 29 Adams St. South, Manchester. Burial in Mount St. Peter's Cemetery, Derby, CT will be private and at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call at the John F.
