Irene (McGann) Mistretta, 92, widow of Joseph T. Mistretta, died on Monday January 3, 2011 in Purdys, NY. She was born in Manchester on January 23, 1918, the daughter of Terrance and Jane (Andrews) McGann. She was a graduate of St. James School and Manchester High School (Class of 1937B). Prior to her retirement in March of 1983, she was employed as a secretary in the Patent Law Department of United Technologies Corporation for more than twenty-five years. She is survived by five children: Joseph "Pat" Mistretta, and his wife Nancy, of Manchester and Mesa, AZ, James Mistretta, and his wife Sandy, of Manchester, Gerald Mistretta and his wife Anne Marie, of Big Sky, MT, Michael Mistretta, and his wife Carol, of Manchester, and a daughter, Margaret Sandwick, and her husband William, of Bedford Hills, NY. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Gregory Mistretta. Per Irene's request, there are no calling hours, however a funeral service for friends and family will be held on Thursday (January 6th) at 10 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint James Church, 896 Main Street, Manchester at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
