W. Norene Phillips, born November 11, 1916, passed away October 25, 2010 at Manchester Manor. A Texas native, Connecticut became Norene's adopted home when she married Paul Francis Phillips of Rockville. Paul and Norene spent their married lives of almost fifty years in Manchester, where they raised three daughters. Owner of Lovely Lady Beauty Salon in Manchester, Norene was a tireless worker, admired and respected by employees and customers alike. Norene also worked with Paul in the family business, Personalized Floors, and supported him in Democratic Party politics. In their spare time, Paul and Norene were avid racing fans and owned several thoroughbreds and greyhounds, whom they named for their grandchildren. Norene took up golf after retirement, which she enjoyed, along with the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Women's basketball, until she suffered a debilitating stroke.
Norene faced overwhelming stroke-related physical challenges with grace and dignity. She died after a short but grueling illness, surrounded by family, a few weeks before her 94th birthday. The youngest of eight children, Norene's brothers and sisters predeceased her.
