Obituary of Vincent Zito
Vincent A. Zito, 82, beloved husband of Jean (Lombardo) Zito died peacefully on October 20, 2010 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Hartford on August 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Vincent D. and Josephine Zito. He lived in Manchester for the last 38 years, graduated from Mt. St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI and attended Lehigh University. Vincent was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption where he volunteered and directed the children's choir. He retired from Metal Industries, Inc. where he was founder and president. A US Army Veteran, he had proudly served in World War II in Korea, and was a triple medal honoree. Active in many local organizations, he was past president and secretary of the Manchester Chapter of UNICO National, which donates to local charities and scholarship programs, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of the US Army, Korean War Veterans and the American Legion. He was active in the Barbershop Harmony Society for 60 years and served as choral director, quartet member, judge, arranger, coach and M.C. Vin also directed the Mountain Laurel Chapter of Sweet Adeline's for 20 years. He hosted Bob and Vin's Barbershop Radio Show with his best friend Bob Morrissey whom he now joins in perfect harmony. He was also a member of the Manchester Art's Council Hall of Fame for vocal music. Besides his family and music he enjoyed his Corvette and trips to the casino. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Christine Heavens and her husband John, Vincent and his wife Laura, his treasured grandchildren Ashley, Ava, Diana and Cecilia, cousins Brian and Sally Zito, and his extended family, Vince, Cyndi, Corinne, and godson Brandon. Funeral service will be held on Monday (October 25th) at 9:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at the Church of the Assumption 27 Adams St. South, Manchester followed by burial with military honors at East Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 pm.
