Obituary of Helen Mamet
Helen Mamet (Kuzma), 92, passed away on June 13, in Manchester, Connecticut after an active and creative life, focused on her family, friends, church and her amazing gardens. She was predeceased by her husband, Emil Victor Mamet.
Born in Whitestone, New York, Helen and Emil moved to Coventry in 1948, building a home on Bread and Milk Street. With a young family, Helen was a 4-H leader, Brownie Troop leader, assistant librarian at the Porter Library, garden club member, and a volunteer in the school system. Helen later brushed up her steno skills and resumed her career as a legal secretary in the 1950s at a Manchester law firm.
Starting the study of Tai Chi in her seventies, she credited her amazing vitality to a healthy diet and the classes and friendships she enjoyed at Malee Khow's Manchester martial arts school. She participated in both national and international competitions, proudly winning numerous gold medals.
Helen leaves family and friends who loved her and benefited from her caring, sense of humor, and common sense. Daughters Suzanne Mamet and Lynn Ryerson reside in Manchester. Grandson Erik Ryerson and his wife Michele and their children Ella, Macy, and Brock, and granddaughter Kristina Libby and husband Jeffrey and their children Shane, Maxwell and Isla will miss their Nanny. Wayne Ryerson has been a devoted and caring friend.
Calling hours are from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 16th at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center Street in Manchester. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 17th at 11 am at the Church of the Assumption 27 Adams St. South, Manchester.
