Obituary of Francis Vogel

It is with great sadness and joy that we announce the passing of our father Francis "Frank" Vogel, 70, of Manchester, CT after a prolonged illness. He is survived by a son Eric, his daughter-in-law Wendy and granddaughter Lilly Vogel of San Mateo, CA, a beloved daughter Heather Vogel of Chicago, IL and a life long friend his former wife Trish Vogel of Old Orchard Beach, ME. Frank spent his entire life in service to his family and community. Following his time in the Army(1961-63) as a medic deployed in Germany, Frank returned to Massachusetts to attend UMass-Amherst from which he graduated with a B.A. in 1966. From 1971-1993 Frank held numerous positions at various state angencies and non-profits focused on assisting disadvantaged communities within the mental health and substance abuse fields. He received his MSW from UConn School of Social Work. He worked up until the time of his illness in 1993 as the Director of Community Placement at Connecticut Valley Hospital. He gave of himself with no limits in terms of his time and compassion and instilled this in both of his children whom he loved a great deal. Frank was also a friend of Bill's. He spent the last years of his life under the gentle care of the Alzheimer's Resource Center of CT. The Center's outstanding care of Frank and his family will never be forgotten. They are truly angels and for this we are eternally grateful. A memorial mass will be held on October 2nd at 11 am at the Church of the Assumption 27 Adams Street South, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, Frank's family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Resource Center of CT 1261 South Main St. Plantsville, CT 06479. We love you Dad and will miss you for the rest of our lives. For online condolences please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.
