Mrs. Howard, I had the pleasure of having all of your children on Bus 13 when they attended St James School. They were the most polite and considerate kids! Mr. Howard and you must have taught them everything they know. I send prayers to you and the kids for your huge loss.

Jay will truly be missd by all who knew him. As the MHS Guidance Counselor to his children, I was so impressed by his compassion and concern for their best interests. Whenever Jay made an appointment to stop in to MHS, I knew that I would be meeting with a very knowledgable and objective advocate for his children. Jay had so much insight and he was able to bring great ideas to my office. Jay became a friend whom I admired greatly. I will miss your intelligence, your love for your family, and your upbeat outlook on life. May you rest in peace, my friend!

Today the sun is shining less brightly on Scarborough Road. Linda and I were stunned by the news, which we read too late to go to the calling hours. Whenever we walked by Jay's house, there would be the friendly conversation: about the town or the political scene or baseball or our families or the little dogs. Jay was an engaged citizen. He cared about his community, his street, his home. We will miss him very much.

Dear Laurie and Sarah and the Howroyd family, I cannot even imagine what you are going through. It must feel like a terrible dream that you are waiting to awaken from. I have nothing but fond memories of Jay at the pool parties at 37 Scarborough Rd and his part in the Indian Princess Program with Peter and Shay and other neighbors on the street. He was always a kind and gentle father and husband who seemed to be liked by everyone he met. I will miss seeing him walking the dogs with you Laurie-the only family that have more dogs than I do. Shay and Sarah seemed to be interchangeable-sometimes she was always at your house, therefore your daughter and sometimes Sarah was at ours and seemed like our daughter. Shay has lost her "second" dad and we have lost a great man who could always make you feel better just with a smile. My deepest sympathy, Colby

My friend from the sunny days of youth, when summers were for play and discovery, poker on the picnic table at the Green School, and swinging from the rope at the "B" at Salters Pond. Rest in peace. Terrence To-day, the road all runners come, Shoulder-high we bring you home, And set you at your threshold down, Townsman of a stiller town.

To Lauren and family, I was very saddened to hear of Jay's passing. I had the pleasure of calling Jay my friend for over the last twenty years. He was a great person to be around and he had a great passion for sports. He loved to talk about the Yankees, Giants and the UCONN Huskies. He was a person that you just liked being around. He was a good man and a good friend. Please take comfort that Jay is now in heaven with God. He will always be with you in your hearts. God bless each of you. Tony Buehler

To Jay's family - I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know Jay when we were assigned to a work project in early 2008. As a new employee to Travelers, and visiting from St. Paul, Jay was so welcoming - and our ongoing work relationship was a joy. I have made it a point to pop over to his cube and say hi nearly every trip I have made since then. Reading all the wonderful things that Jay was involved in, frankly, doesn't surprise me - just a great, great man. And he will be genuinely missed by his family at Travelers. I hope all the warm memories of him carry you through these sad days. All my best - Erin
