William Gaines Zimmer, 68, of East Hartford passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Doris (Arpin) Zimmer. He was born in Hartford to the late Richard Zimmer, Jr. and Irene (Claffey) Zimmer. He received an Honorable Discharge from the US Air Force Military Service in 1967. He worked at Mohawk Dairy in Newington, then retired in 2000 from Admiral Moving in South Windsor. William was also active in the Knights of Columbus for several years. Besides his wife he is survived by three children; William Jr. and Kevin of East Hartford, and Julia Porter and her husband Scott of TN. He is also survived by a brother, Richard III and his wife, Theodis; a sister, Patricia of New Mexico, as well as several nieces, nephews and two grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Saturday (March 20th) at 10:30 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 am at St. Christopher Church 538 Brewer Street East Hartford. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1318 Hebron Ave. Glastonbury. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9-10:30 am.
