Miller Family, Glenn, Carol-lynn, Elizabeth posted a condolence
Monday, March 22, 2010
In 1985 to 1989, our family lived at the Arch street house. We lived right below Ida & Ernie. We already knew they had many difficulties with former tenents because they told us so. But as we shared stories and anxieties, and the desire to help each other, we learned from each other. I heard stories from Ida about where she worked. And Ernie was fascinating. I loved his tool shop downstairs. Puttering around fixing this & that. We made improvements upstairs graciously. Sand, paint, polish, we built cabinets under the kitchen sink and under that little sink in the bathroom. I remember how Ernie would vent about the other tenents and the noise. For a little while we were also warned about our noise. We helped with the outside too. and planted flowers in the beds. I remember asking Ida what flowers she liked and that's what we put in. I remember Ernies TOY his jeep his prize. and his very special birthday meal that he could get free at MR. STEAK, where dunkin donuts is now. It was always liver and onions. I had to have an operation in 1985 and I remember in my recovery Ida and Ernie checking up on me. By the end of that year, Glenn and I were expecting and quite frankly we were a little frightened because when we moved in Ida sat down and told us " NO KIDS - I don't want children here." It wasn't in our plans then and we agreed. But a year and a half later we had to somehow tell her. We thought that would kick us out. But the didn't and put up with new born cries and toddler antics. Actually our daughter Elizabeth really won over Ernie and they became good buddies, especially through the screens and the front porch. I think Ernie would have made an excellent father. He was tough and rough around the edges but sweet and good natured. Elizabeth was scared of the big white furnace under our basement staircase, especially when it roared. Ernie and Glenn would compare work strategies. Glenn was a machinist and later he went into carpentry. I think Ernie liked those chats. Glenn and I also were involved very heavily in singing and were active in the MSOC in Manchester and Glenn loved to play guitar. Ida and Ernie would sit out on their front porch and listen. I sang at Ida's funeral at St James. I am so sorry to hear of Ernies passing. I would drive by the house at different times but their were no cars. I would like to know where he is buried so I could pay my respects. May I? My husband Glenn just called me about the notice and so I write to you today March 22 and express my deepest regret. Carol-Lynn
