William (Bill) Lester Tamburro, Jr. of Glastonbury, CT passed away in the loving presence of his family on March 9, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born October 24, 1955 in Hartford. He was the beloved husband of Paula, awesome father of Holly and Nathan and loving son of William and Rosalie Tamburro of East Lyme. Growing up in Windsor, Bill earned awards for achievements as manager for varsity sports at Windsor High School. He gave freely of his time as a Little League Coach and was deeply involved in the activities of his children. Bill was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University. As an adult, Bill was active in the Greater Hartford Jaycees and served as the Vice Chairman of the GHO for many years. He achieved great success as a businessman, most recently as a principal in Lighthouse Recruiting. Of his many assignments, he greatly enjoyed his time at Canberra Industries. Bill was the life of every party. His views on politics and current events were a constant source of debate among his family and friends. He loved to fish, travel, and like all Italian people, eat and drink. He was a lifelong Yankee fan. In addition to his wife, children and parents, Bill is survived by his heartbroken extended family, brother John and wife Cathy of Southington, sister Maria and her husband Charlie Higgins of Tolland, sister Lisa and her husband Mark Arute of Tolland, and brother Jim and his wife Suzanne of South Windsor. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in- law Fred and Linda Boothroyd of Bolton, Connecticut and Joan and Larry Soma of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. The family will receive friends at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street in Manchester, Connecticut from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Family and friends are asked to meet directly on Friday March 12, 2010 at 10:00am at the Church of the Holy Family,185 Church Street, Hebron, Connecticut to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in Bill's name to the Helen and Harry Grey Cancer Center or the American Cancer Society.
