Gladys Fiengo

Obituary of Gladys Fiengo

Gladys Cook Fiengo was united with her husband John Frank Fiengo in God's Kingdom on February 27, 2010. Her earthly journey of eighty six years touched the hearts of many. She was born in Manchester on March 28, 1923 to Louis and Julia Cook. In 1942 Gladys married John Fiengo. They were happily married for 47 years. Together they raised 4 children, all of whom survive her: Ronald and his wife Kathleen, Dennis and his wife Sherrill, Thomas and his wife Jan, and Mary and her husband Michael with whom she made her home. Gladys leaves 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren whom she was anxiously awaiting, all of whom were very special to her. Along with her parents Louis and Julia, husband John, and brother Otto, she was predeceased by an infant daughter Julie. Gladys resided in her home on Benton Street for 75 years until moving in with her daughter and son-in-law 9 years ago. Gladys loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family. Whether a Sunday dinner, a large family gathering or just coffee on the deck, to be with her family was the most important thing to her. A humble, compassionate woman of many, many talents, more than anyone can count. She gave herself unconditionally to everyone. She was a wonderful role model to her family. Words cannot express the emptiness we feel in our hearts. A gathering for reminiscing will be held on Wednesday (March 3rd) from 4-8 pm at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center Street Manchester. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:15 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. James Church followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
