Obituary of Brooke Newkirk

Brooke (Tedford) Newkirk, 62, beloved wife of Thomas Dekker, of Manchester, died peacefully in the arms of her family while at home on Monday February 22nd , following her hard fought courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born June 17, 1947, in Manchester, CT, she is the daughter of Dorothy Nichols and the late Joseph Tedford. Brooke lived most of her life in Manchester. She was an amazingly strong, loving, determined, and hard working woman. The select few who had the opportunity to truly know her are blessed. She believed her children were her greatest accomplishment in life. She and her husband Tom believed that life should never be boring; they enjoyed music concerts, golf, and trips to visit family in Chicago, Red Sox regular season games in Boston, MA as well as spring training games in Ft. Myers, FL. She loved a good cup of coffee, church bingo, and her trips to the casino. Brooke deeply enjoyed the unconditional love of her pets, especially Noah and Buddy. She had an unparalleled and inspirational work ethic and she believed in getting the job done right! Among the many jobs Brooke held throughout her life she was a stewardess, the co-owner of her own business with her late husband, and a dedicated employee of over 24 years at the JC Penny Distribution Center, Manchester, CT. In addition to Tom, Brooke is survived by her two loving children Jennifer Newkirk and Ryan Newkirk as well as their fiancés, Anthony Rogers III, and Rebecca Fitch; her two immensely devoted sisters and their spouses Donna and Daniel Uriano and Mary Jane and Bob Viara; She is additionally survived by her loving and supportive in-laws Hank and Roberta Dekker, her brother-in-law Henry Dekker; and nine nieces and nephews; Christopher Uriano, Mara Dumond, Daniel Uriano, Andrew Viara, Eric Viara, Katherine Viara, Henry Dekker, Kevin Dekker, and Andrew Dekker. Brooke was preceded in death by her loving first husband, and father of her two children, Gary Newkirk, who passed away suddenly in 1987. Special thanks to Father Robert who led Brooke and our family to better understand and experience the love and peace of the Lord. Calling hours will be 5p-8p Thursday February 25th at John F.
