Obituary of Kathleen Long

Kathleen (Albrecht) Long, 83, beloved wife of Francis M. ("Doc") Long of Manchester passed away on Tuesday February 2, 2010. Kay was born in Hartford, CT on June 18, 1926, the daughter of Louis and Josephine (Rogers) Albrecht. She attended St. Augustine's School and Buckeley High School. She was married for 61 years to her beloved husband Doc Long. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her four children Kathleen Devin and her husband Peter of Southington; Michael Long and his wife Barbara of Wethersfield; Bitzy Wilson and family of Acton, MA; and Kellie Quinn and her husband Bob of Jefferson City, MO. Kay was an active and loving grandmother to Michael and Alyssa Devin, Michael Long, Kaitlin Long Vallera and her husband Dan, Melanie Wilson Cipar and her husband Jim, Bryan and Kaila Wilson, Haley and Robby Quinn, and her new great-grandson Antonio Michael Vallera. Kay will also be missed by her beloved sister Maureen Robenhymer and her husband Phil; her brother Louis Albrecht and his wife Doris, and her many nieces and nephews. Kay was an avid golfer and even enjoyed the rare accomplishment of achieving a hole in one. She was an excellent cook and always made great efforts to remember and celebrate birthdays and other special events. She made all holidays memorable for her husband, children and grandchildren. Doc Long and the family would like to extend their special thanks to the staff of Manchester Manor and the Visiting Nurses of Vernon for providing excellent care and comfort to Kay during her stay. She will be loved, remembered and missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (February 5, 2010) at 11 am at the Church of the Assumption, 27 Adams St. South, Manchester followed by burial in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements.
