Obituary of Mortimer E. Moriarty
Mortimer E. Moriarty Jr. (age 75), of Manchester CT died on Sunday, January 21st at Hartford Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mort was the son of Dr. Mortimer and Mabel Moriarty of Manchester and leaves behind six children including Christopher Moriarty and his wife Janet of Glastonbury, CT, Paul Moriarty and his wife Amber of Manchester, Kevin Moriarty and his wife Tara of Manchester, Erin Champlin and her husband Tom of Brewster, MA, Mary Beth Kuzoian and her husband John of Glastonbury, and Michael Doherty and his wife Beth also of Glastonbury. Mort was the proud grandfather of 24 grandchildren ages 7 to 27, and was predeceased by his adored wife Pat in 2003. Mort is survived by his sister Patricia McGowan of Yarmouthport, MA and her four children and their families. Mort graduated from Manchester High School (class of 1960), attended Providence College (class of 64), served in the US Army and joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1966. There, he enjoyed a long and successful career over 30 years, developing many rewarding relationships along the way. Mort received his MBA from the University of Hartford. He enjoyed very clean cars, UConn basketball, golf with friends and dinners out with family. He was an active member at Manchester Country Club. Mort was fortunate to have maintained several life-long friendships that began as early as his time at St James school. Those friends were dedicated to him and visited often to enjoy a laugh over these past difficult months. We are also very grateful to his care giver, Dora Tampuri Manan whose kindness was a true blessing. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family during calling hours at Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Street, Manchester, CT on Thursday, January 25th, from 5-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St James Church 896 Main St. Manchester on Friday at 11:00 AM, and will be followed by a burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury.
