Obituary of William Burns

Rev. William L. Burns, 83, of Manchester, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late James R. and Mary (Lewis) Burns. He was a US Army veteran and was a pharmacist for 26 years. On February 9, 1985, Rev. William Burns was ordained a Priest by Archbishop John F. Whealon. He had served at Ss. Peter & Paul in Waterbury, St. Thomas in Thomaston, St. Gabriel in Windsor and St. Francis in Naugatuck, was in residence at St. Lawrence O'Toole in Hartford and St. James Church in Manchester, where he has been the Senior Priest in Residence from November 2009 - January 2018. He is survived by his brother James R. Burns, Jr. of West Hartford; his niece and nephews Catherine Robinson and her husband Michael of Manchester, Theodore J. Pastva, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Amston, Stephen J. Pastva and his fiancée Pam of Manchester and Thomas P. Pastva of Ellington; and his great-niece and nephew Elizabeth M. Robinson and Matthew D. Hanley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Ellen Price and Margaret Pastva; and his niece Margaret P. Hanley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester followed by burial in St. James Cemetery. A Parish Mass will be celebrated TODAY, Wednesday evening, at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends may call at St. James Church 896 Main St. on Wednesday TODAY from 6:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Guiding Eyes for the Blind 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
