Obituary of Daniel Carey

Daniel Joseph Carey, 83, of Manchester, CT passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 20th at home. Born in Killorglin, County Kerry Ireland, Dan came to the U.S. at the age of 19 aboard the Ernie Pyle Ship. Settling in Manchester he was employed by Moriarty Brothers car dealership as manager for 38 years. It was there that he met the love of his life, his wife Beverly (Porter) of 52 years who predeceased him on January 8, 2007. Dan was a parishioner of St. Bartholomew's Church. He was also affiliated with numerous local organizations as well as serving as team manager for the Hartford Gaelic Football Team. He was a lifelong member of the Irish American Home Society of Glastonbury. Upon retirement Dan and Bev fulfilled their lifelong dream living on Cape Cod for many years. He leaves behind his two loving daughters Donna (Carey) Riley and Jeanne (Carey) Pawelec and her husband Paul; his loving grandchildren Shaina, and David Riley, Jr. and Michael Pawelec all of Manchester. Surviving siblings are Johanna Nagle and her husband Michael of Surfside Beach S.C. along with Denis Carey and his wife Mary, Maurice, Cornelius and a sister-in-law Maureen all of Ireland, a brother-in-law Bill Porter and sister-in-law Janet Porter of Coventry along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins both in the U.S. and Ireland. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his parents John and Ellen Carey, his siblings Patrick, John, Harry and Michael Carey and Mary Egan all of Ireland. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all of the Masonicare Partners Home Health and Hospice Team of East Hartford as well as the Hospice team of Cape Cod who have provided such loving, supportive and compassionate care throughout the years. Our very special thank you to Maria Battista and all of our personal companions and caregivers that have provided our Dad with such wonderful care. Funeral service will be held on Saturday (May 23rd) at 10:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 am at St. Bartholomew Church 736 Middle Turnpike Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4-7 pm.
