Eleanor T. Rook, 85, of Manchester, passed away with dignity and courage, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 27, 2009 at Woodlake in Tolland. Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late William M. Rook and the daughter of Edward and Catherine Thomas. Born in New London, Connecticut, Eleanor graduated from The Williams School. A devoted wife, she was married for 40 years to Bill until his death in 1986. Together, they raised four children and in later years enjoyed traveling and the company of their children and grandchildren. Eleanor was a communicant of St. Bartholomew's Church and a member of the Ladies' Guild for many years. She was a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers. She is survived by her children, Patricia Wehr and her husband Joseph of Ellington, Kathleen St. Onge and her husband Paul of Ellington, James W. Rook and his wife Susan Ackerman of West Granby, John T. Rook and his wife Kathleen of Ashford, her grandchildren, Allison Wehr, Melissa Wehr, and Megan Therriault, Christopher and Elizabeth St. Onge, Nathaniel and Max Rook and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lucille Schlink. Eleanor's family would like to extend a special thank you to Gloria Fraser, for her love, care and companionship the last five years and to Jennifer Donai. Ellie will always be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, support, patience and unconditional love as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a selfless person who always thought of others even in the last days of her life. We have been so graciously blessed to have had her in our lives. Funeral service will be held on Friday (May 1st) at 10:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 am at St. Bartholomew Church, Manchester followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
