Obituary of Marijo Sweeney
Marijo Marijo Sweeney, 61, of Glastonbury died on Saturday, (March 14, 2009) at Middlesex Hospital after a long valiant battle with cancer. The daughter of Joseph G. and the late Julia Scaglia Sweeney, she graduated from Glastonbury High School and enlisted in the US Army retiring at the rank of E-7, Sergeant First Class. Her Army career included tours in Korea and Germany, duty at various US bases, and service in the Army Reserves. She worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Manchester. A long time member of the Army & Navy Club in Manchester, Marijo served on the Board of Directors. She is survived by her loving family: father Joseph; sister Deborah and husband Gary; brothers Leonard, Michael and wife Margaret, and Sean; children Joseph and Nellie and fiance Michael, grandchildren Kailee, Evin, and Mia, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 17 from 5-8 p.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester. Her funeral will start on Wednesday, March 18 at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget's Church, 80 Main Street, Manchester. Burial service with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury.
